Not that I'm a super big fan of the hotel collinsville (swear my hall smelled like puke all weekend last year) this change puts a cramp in pre registering for us out of towners. Think it's best to just wait til they post more info on the archon 33 site before i pick my hotel?

I suppose it doesn't hurt to reserve somewhere now as long as you can cancel it. I'm waiting to see if they designate a party hotel or whether things will be truly spread out. If no hotel is designated I suggest we all try to get in the same one... At least we will be much closer to white castle :)

That was just the guy who threw up in my room.

I don't know what to expect either. I am probably going to figure something out.. I will let everyone know what I find out.

Someone's contacted some local media and told them about the new hotel owners decision to tell archon to FO, and how it could affect the convention center and other hotels in the area if archon has to find a new venue. Maybe, not likely but maybe some media pressure will help. We can only hope.

Since I drive about 7 hours for this con, I'm currently laughing my posterior into a new zipcode. :P

As far as waiting on reservations, I just put mine in at The Days Inn. The three other hotels, the ones across the street from the convention center: Extended Stay, Farfield and Super 8 are all booked. Dosen't necessarly mean they are sold out, they will still reales more as people cancell, but for now The Days Inn is the closest left, and from what the receptionist told me they are about half filled.

I did reserve 6 rooms, Rick almost had us across the highway at the Motel 6. So if anyone runs into troubles getting a room, we have a few left. I am going to hold them till about the end of September, so PM me if you are in need.

Recently there was a statement on the official site that none of the hotels will allow room parties (not really a surprise) - at this point I'll probably hold off on registering for the con or reserving a room and just try to figure something at the last minute if I decide to go.

Just booked a room at the Day's Inn, too. I am hoping it is close enough for walking anywhere in the convention area. If not, I think I remember a comfy ditch or two between the hotels...

Awesome news, Billi!

I read a thoughtful writeup about there no longer being room parties at Archon. I agree with two points: 1) most room parties were getting to be pretty lame anyway and 2) I'm warming up to the idea of having everything in the convention center 'til 3 AM.

Now, the only thing I'm worried about is the congestion that occurs in the hallways when you have the combination of artist's tables + foot traffic + lines forming for conference rooms + photogs.

The biggest potential problem with the lack of room parties is that there is no specific hotel or wing of a hotel where people have specific license to be loud. For example, playing Rock Band. I think the risk now is that any random person who actually is at the con with the notion of going to sleep before 3am will be able (and frankly should be able) to call the front desk and complain about the noise 2 rooms down the hall. So it isn't the room parties so much but the informal gatherings that might be affected. So, here's to hoping that there won't be a select few who seek to spoil the fun of many.

However, I agree with the post for the most part, especially the message about not being bitchy and moving on. I'll try to stop the bitching. But it will be hard. :)

Just reserved one myself.

Jesus, 120$ down the drain. I am actually in intense physical pain from the thought of it.....

I'm gonna go to the con. Pat just took a new job and won't be able to make it this year. I think my reservation is at the Days Inn, so I'll have space for 1 if anyone wants to be roomies.

*SIGH*
I can't make it this year... I underestimated my work load and can't come, very very sad about this. I hope everyone has a great time and I'll be there next year!
